Posted on January/19/2017 | Categories: Videos 19 Comments

ZTE Axon 7 burst onto the “Smartphones under 0” scene! Thanks for blowing up my Twitter about it. Turns out it’s pretty good.

I think it would be a great idea if you add call quality to the pillars, nobody really talks about call quality ever. A ton of phones are great devices, but TERRIBLE with call quality, they can do everything a smartphone can, except make decent calls. since the axon is so audio based, im hoping the call quality will be good.

This is the first phone I've even considered to replace a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. It has the key features such as dual speakers, removable SD, great display. It's not waterproof though. After having that I don't think I can live without it. It's so nice not worrying about it, such as using it outside in a light rain, taking pictures of rivers and lakes, dropping it in the snow while skiing, or simply cleaning the phone. The camera seems at least comparable. What I realized though, is that I always go for phones (and devices in general) that do something new. HTC Evo 3D had the 3D display and camera (I still use it from time to time). HTC M7 had Boomsound and an Ultrapixel Camera (which, at the time, looked amazing). Z5 Premium had 4K display (and no, its not overrated – the pixels are very tiny and in a zig zag pattern, it makes everything look better especially VR). The ZTE is just lacking a wow factor. And, so you don't think I'm a fanboy, I think the new Sony and HTC phones have the same issue.

In 2015, the first video I watched on this channel was the top 5 budget smartphones under $300. OnePlus 3 and Asus Zenfone 2 were the top 2 phones with their flagship phones under $300. Fast forward a little over a year later and neither's current flagship phone (Zenfone 3 Deluxe ($499) and OP3T ($439) at the time of this post) is under $400. I like the terms "high end budget phones" or "budget flagship phones" and the two previous phones fall into that boat. The Axon 7 and Idol 4S I guess would still fall into the budget phone definition for 2017 (under $400). Phones like the Blu Pure XR ($299) or the Zenfone 3 ($249) would still fit the 2015 definition of flagship budget phones.
